About the Authors

Michel Gagne

Michel Gagne is the CEO of Coaching & Training Asia. He trains and turn executives and managers into manager’s coaches. While coaching is not a new concept, he advocates that without coaching, training loses its effectiveness rapidly, and often fails to achieve the lasting behavioural changes needed. Dr Michel Gagne is a Member of the Oxford Association of Management in the Grade of Certified Doctor of Business Administration and a Grand Doctor of Philosophy with the International University of Fundamental Studies of St-Petersburg, Russia.

Dr Michel is a Founding Fellow of the Harvard Medical School Institute of Coaching Professional Association (USA). He is also a Fellow of the Society of Sports and Exercise Medicine Malaysia (SSEMM). He is a Member of the Project Management Institute (PMI). He was also an Associate Fellow Member of the Institut Pengurusan Malaysia (MIM Malaysian Institute of Management). He is a Certified Coach Facilitator with Corporate Coach U. International. Michel is an active member of the International Coach Federation (ICF) and the International Coaching Community (ICC). While training is an "event", coaching is a “process”, which is a valuable next step to training to insure that the new knowledge imparted actually becomes learned behaviour.

In the last few years he has trained more than 5,000 executives and managers as coaches and directed mentoring and coaching courses and lectured in all of Canada; in the European Countries of United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Kosovo, Albania and Russia; in the Caribbean Islands of Puerto Rico, St-Kits and Dominica; in the African Countries of Kenya, Senegal, Guinea and Mauritania; in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain for the Gulf Region; in the Asian Countries of India, Iran, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan and China.

Participants have come from various industries such as banking, manufacturing, biochemical, pharmaceutical, real estate, construction, insurance, telecommunication, information technology, microelectronics, governments and many other places. An excellent motivator, Michel has worked with several Olympic Medallists and Athletes from Canada and abroad since the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. He was involved in the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games as Manager of the Training Venues. He has been involved in Mental Preparation for Olympic Athletes in several sports in Canada and abroad since 1972. Amongst Asia’s world-level athletes he worked with are: Squash Eight Times World Champion Dato Nicol David, A1/F1 Driver Alex Young, LPGA Golfer Lim Siew Ai from Malaysia, Commonwealth Games Badminton Gold Medallist Rashid Sidek, Barcelona Olympic Medallist Jalani and Rasif Sidek from Malaysia, and many more.

Mark Loo

Mark Loo is as an Associate Professor, Mihalcheon School of Business at Concordia University of Edmonton, Canada. He has a PhD in Management (Marketing) from Multimedia University Malaysia, an Executive MBA from Bath University, UK and a BA Honours in Mass Communication and Psychology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Mark has 25 years’ work experience in various industries before becoming a full-time academic. His work included banking, office automation, multilevel marketing, advertising, children education and training consultancy. He has taught BBA and MBA/Master’s courses for university twinning programmes from Australia, Netherlands, United Kingdom and the United States, as well as teaching at Malaysian and Canadian universities. He has also taught courses at the Malaysian Institute of Personnel Management. 

Mark has designed and delivered customised training programmes for national institutes of management including the Singapore Institute of Management, National Insurance Association of Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Management, Asean European Management Centre Brunei and the Mauritian Quality Institute. His training assignments have taken him to Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.  

As a result of his collaboration with national institutes of management, Mark has customised training for over 100 clients including Amway, Cadbury, DuPont, Genting, Informatics, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Kodak China, Maybank Assurance, Nokia, RHB, Standard Chartered, UMW Toyota and Zuellig Pharma. 

Mark has presented and published research related to global competitiveness, Islamic Banking, advertising values for global brand positioning and negotiation styles among Malays, Indians and Chinese in Malaysia. He has presented academic papers in Asia and Europe. He had written six management courses for distance learning while teaching in Multimedia University Malaysia.

Mark holds trainer certifications with the American Management Association, Training London and NAIT Canada. Mark is the 2014-15 Chair of Education in the Board of Directors for the Alberta chapter of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association, Canada. Mark’s passion is to coach and develop managerial talent.

Alfred Chee Ah Chil
Alfred Chee Ah Chil holds a Doctorate Degree in Business Administration from Southern Cross University, Australia, a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Management from the University of Lincolnshire & Humberside (UK) and a Certificate in Training & Development (UK). Dr Chee has been an Associate Professor at City University College of Science and Technology since 2012. Prior to joining City University of Science and Technology, he has taught the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from various foreign universities.
Koon Vui Yee
Koon Vui Yee is a Senior Lecturer at Sunway University, Malaysia. She teaches management principles to undergraduate students of all majors. Prior to joining Sunway University, she taught strategic human resource management, management principles, industrial organisational psychology and compensation at the Faculty of Accountancy, Finance and Business of the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College to undergraduates students, where she also served as Programme Leader of the Economics and Administration Department. Dr Koon holds a Bachelor (Hons) of Business Administration, majoring in Human Resource Management, from Universiti Putra Malaysia. She did her Master of Management with distinction at the University of Malaya and obtained her PhD in Business Administration from Asia e-University (AeU). She is also a reviewer of the International Journal of Human Resource Management and the Journal of Contemporary Management Research. She is the author of Principles of Management (2015; SJ Learning), a widely used management textbook in Malaysia and Organizational Behavior (2018; SJ Learning).
Ang Eng Sieng
Ang Eng Sieng is a Senior Lecturer at Help University. Her teaching and research interests include Human Resource Management, Managing Change and Organisational Behaviour. Eng Sieng’s background includes work as tutor, trainer, consultant and lecturer. Eng Sieng stays active as a Human Resource Management strategist. Her experience includes international teaching assignments in Vietnam, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. She is the author of Principles of Management (2015; SJ Learning), a widely used management textbook in Malaysia.
Lee Su Teng
Lee Su Teng started her Human Resources (HR) profession in the year 2000. Her broad experience includes hands-on involvement in managing the full spectrum of HR, working with human resources information systems, spearheading HR business contingency plans and being an HR representative for an acquisition exercise. She left corporate work after being awarded a full scholarship to pursue her Doctoral degree. She has now moved on to an academic career with the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya, Malaysia, where she teaches human resources. Her research is interdisciplinary and addresses issues on generational cohorts, employee engagement, and Human Resources.
Ho Jo Ann
Ho Jo Ann is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Management and Marketing, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She holds a BSc in Resource Economics and an MBA from Universiti Putra Malaysia. Jo Ann obtained her PhD in Management from Cardiff Business School, United Kingdom. Her research interests are in the areas of business ethics, corporate social responsibility and human resource management. Jo Ann’s work has appeared in international journals such as Journal of Business Ethics and Business Ethics: A European Review, Journal of Cleaner Production, books, subject modules and as book chapters in local and international publications.
Hamrila Abdul Latip
Hamrila Abdul Latip is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Economics & Business, Universiti Malaysia of Sarawak (UNIMAS). She obtained her PhD (Management) from RMIT University Melbourne, Australia, her MSc (Management) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, her Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning from UNIMAS, and her Bachelor of Management (Technology) from Universiti of Technology, Malaysia (UTM). Her research interests include business management, entrepreneurship, service innovation, and human resource management.
Kosmas X. Smyrnios
Kosmas X. Smyrnios is Professor of Family Business Entrepreneurship, School of Management, RMIT University. Kosmas was a Foundation Associate Editor of the Journal of Family Business Strategy and former Associate Editor of the Family Business Review journal, and a former Foundation Board Member of the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA). Kosmas has developed an extensive applied research record with over 150 international and national refereed publications in different disciplines, including marketing, psychology, family therapy, physics, management, and accounting.
Zuraina Dato Mansor
Zuraina Dato Mansor is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Management and Marketing, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Zuraina earned her PhD in International Business from Huddersfield University, United Kingdom, specialising in International Business and Organisational Learning. Her current interest is in human resource management and she has been teaching HR courses since 2009. She is actively involved in research and publication in HR subjects and has presented her work in national as well as international conferences. She has published articles and in local and international journals.
Chandrakantan Subramaniam
Chandrakantan Subramaniam is currently an Associate Professor of Human Resource Management at the School of Business Management, Universiti Utara Malaysia. He earned a bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in 1999, a Master's degree in Emergency Response and Planning from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2002, a doctorate in Human Resource Management from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2009, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Entrepreneurship from the University of Cambridge in 2015. He joined Universiti Utara Malaysia as a tutor in 2000 and as a lecturer in 2002. He was promoted as an Associate Professor in 2012. Dr Chandrakantan’s primary research and teaching interests include human resource management, occupational safety and health, and emergency response management. He also writes and publishes his work in local and international journals.
Dileep Kumar M
Dileep Kumar M is a Professor at Berjaya Business School, Malaysia. He has 17 years of experience in the field. He has worked at many prestigious institutes in India and abroad, including International Teaching University, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), for the Sultanate of Oman, Ministry of Manpower (MoMP), Sultanate of Oman, Symbiosis Centre for Management and HRD (SCMHRD), India, and the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), India.
Chan Wai Meng
Chan Wai Meng is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya. She lectures in Company Law and the Legal Environment of Business. Wai Meng has published extensively. She is the author of Essential Company Law in Malaysia: Navigating the Companies Act 2016 published by Sweet & Maxwell Asia in July 2017. She has also authored the books Third Party Rights in Insurance Law in Malaysia (Sweet & Maxwell Asia, 2008) and Company Law in Malaysia (Cengage Learning, 2013). Prior to entering academia, Wai Meng was in legal practice and in the banking industry for ten years. Among the positions she held in the bank were company secretary and legal adviser.
